Each summer, United Veterans Beacon House hosts a barbecue for veterans living in its 52 residences—along with any veteran anywhere that likes good food, entertainment, and the camaraderie of fellow veterans. This year’s barbecue, held on Thursday, June 27, at the Beacon House headquarters in Bay Shore, commemorated the independence of our nation and the veterans who have selflessly protected it.

“Each year, we gather together our veterans in observance of Independence Day, and to thank them personally for their service. It’s a direct way for us to both acknowledge their value and to show how important they truly are in the observance of Independence Day,” said Frank Amalfitano, president and CEO of United Veterans Beacon House. “In large measure, we are all here enjoying our freedoms, and this special day, because of their sacrifice.”

Since 1994, the 501(c)3 nonprofit United Veterans Beacon House has provided a safe haven to veterans and their families. Over 31,500 individuals have benefitted from housing and specialized support services to those in need. Providing a fresh start and an opportunity for growth to those who have bravely served our country, Beacon House manages 52 residential programs throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Services include health care, job training and placement, and assistance with linkage to well-earned financial benefits.

Veterans not only enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs with community leaders, supporters, and friends at the free barbecue, but also entertainment by the American Bombshells. A modern-day twist on the Andrews Sisters, the American Bombshells travel the globe with an all-American show that dazzles in three-part harmony, raising morale and inspiring patriotism for military, veterans, first responders, and their families.
